OSLO (REUTERS) – Two people were killed and 14 injured on Saturday (June 25) in a shooting at a nightclub and nearby streets in Oslo, the Norwegian capital.

A suspect believed to be the sole perpetrator has been apprehended.

The crime scene stretched from the London Pub through a nearby club and to a nearby street where the suspect was apprehended minutes after the shooting began, police spokesman Tore Barstad told the Aftenposten newspaper. .

The London Pub is a popular gay bar and nightclub in central Oslo.

“I saw a man arrive with a bag. He took a gun and started shooting,” reported journalist Olav Roenneberg of public broadcaster NRK.

It was not immediately clear what the motive for the attack was.

Oslo is due to hold its annual Pride Parade later on Saturday.

“Two people are confirmed dead,” the Oslo Police Department said in a tweet.

Some 14 people were taken to hospital, several of them seriously injured, police said.

Photographs published by newspaper VG, broadcaster NRK and others showed a large gathering of emergency responders outside the London Pub, including police and paramedics.

Helicopters hovered over central Oslo as ambulance and police car sirens sounded across the city. Oslo University Hospital said it was put on red alert after the shooting.
