Future of Home exhibition showcases Scottish design culture
[ad_1]
Fifteen designers and design studios based in Scotland unveiled 40 new objects at The future of the house expose to Local hero during the London Design Festival. Organized by Dr Stacey Hunter, director of Local Heroes, each object was imagined as being able to live in a house to reflect the fluidity between the workspace and the living space. From furniture and lighting to collectible textiles and crafts, the show conveys the curiosity and discovery that can be found in design culture in Scotland.
The Future of Home responds to the Brompton Design District theme âFrom Hereâ¦â and invites visitors to rekindle the optimism and exuberance of youth. From concrete furniture created through innovative processes to new materials invented to create more durable pieces, the result is a fresh and daring exhibition conveying a sense of curiosity and discovery of Scottish design culture. Contemporary Scottish design is rooted in places and communities, as well as in many collaborations and co-designs both locally and internationally. It is a generous approach with the sharing of ideas, know-how and attitude towards innovation.
The impetus behind this Local Heroes exhibition is my belief that it is time for Scotland to take its place in the world as a nation of design. We have a population size similar to that of Norway and Denmark. However, our design culture is not yet so well articulated or so easily identifiable. Despite this, contemporary design and craftsmanship in Scotland is flourishing. I see the potential to capitalize and develop this, and with projects like The Future of Home, we hope to raise the profile of design and its contribution to our cultural and economic well-being.
