Norway to host holiday basketball tournament | News, Sports, Jobs

NORWAY — Norway will host a varsity and junior basketball tournament for the college holidays on Dec. 27-28, varsity coach Jeff Gallino announced Aug. 30.
The other teams involved will be Gwinn, Menominee and Westwood. Varsity games will be played in the high school gymnasium, while junior varsity games will be played in the college gymnasium.
The university program is as follows:
Dec. 27 – Westwood vs. Menominee, 1 p.m.; Gwinn vs. Norway, 2:30 p.m.
Dec. 28 – Loser Westwood-Menominee vs. Loser Gwinn-Norway, 1 p.m.; Winner Westwood-Menominee vs. Winner Gwinn-Norway, 2:30 p.m.
The junior university calendar is as follows:
Dec. 27 – Gwinn vs. Norway, 1 p.m.; Westwood vs. Menominee, 2:30 p.m.
Dec. 28 – Gwinn-Norway loser to Westwood-Menominee loser, TBA; Winner of Gwinn-Norway vs Winner of Westwood-Menominee, TBA
It is planned to award the “Ben Leiker Tournament MVP” to the most valuable college player and “Raymond Bray Tournament MVP” to junior college’s most valuable player.
“It should be a great experience to play against quality opponents that we don’t see over the course of the year,” Gallino said.
