Norwegian airline Flyr to expand into Sweden with new direct connection to Oslo from Stockholm Arlanda
Norwegian low-cost start-up Flyr is expanding its route network to Sweden and will launch a new non-stop service to Oslo from Stockholm. From early April, the route will initially have four weekly departures from Stockholm Arlanda.
Flyr is a new Norwegian low-cost airline that focuses on serving the Norwegian market with domestic and international flights from its base at Oslo Gardermoen Airport. The airline started operations in mid-2021 and is now launching its first route to Sweden.
From April 7, Flyr will serve the Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) – Oslo Airport (OSL) route four times a week, and intends to expand this to seven weekly departures during the summer season. They will operate with a Boeing 737-8, a next-generation aircraft that emits up to 14% fewer emissions than previous models.
“It is good news that Flyr is investing in the Swedish market and is now launching a route from Oslo to Stockholm. Oslo is an important market for business travelers and tourists. There is a lot of trade between the two countries and Norway is one of the biggest markets in terms of tourists coming to the Stockholm area. Now that the restrictions are lifted and demand is rising sharply, this bodes well for increased travel between Sweden and Norway, and the expanded range of travel options will be a positive addition.,” says Elizabeth Axeliusdirector of aeronautical activities at Swedavia.
There is a lot of trade between Sweden and Norway, which is one of Sweden’s main trading partners. Norway is also one of the main markets in the Stockholm region for international visitors. More than 40% of current passengers traveling between Stockholm and Oslo are Swedes whose main reason for traveling is work. Travelers from Norway make up almost half of other passengers and most often travel as tourists in the Stockholm area.
There is a demand for fast connections between the two capitals, and the new route will add to the existing supply. In addition to Flyr, three operators currently serve the route to Oslo from Arlanda.
