Norwegian Aker Solutions Says Malaysian Director Cleared
OSLO: The head of the Malaysian unit of the Norwegian company Aker Solutions has been cleared by a court of charges that he presented false documents in connection with relations with the state-owned energy company Petronas, the government said on Monday. Norwegian company.
Ahmad Hatta Kamaruzzaman, who was indicted in June on the allegations, had pleaded not guilty, his lawyer previously told Reuters.
“On November 25, 2021, the courtroom in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia acquitted Ahmad Hatta Kamaruzzaman of the offense,” Aker Solutions said in a statement on Monday.
“The court found the charge to be vague, misleading and did not set out the details of the offense.”
The case was initiated after an investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) into alleged misrepresentation by Aker Solutions to obtain Petronas licenses.
Aker Solutions has denied any wrongdoing, claiming that to its knowledge its Malaysian entities meet all applicable requirements.
“Our colleague Hatta Kamaruzzaman and Aker Solutions opposed the charge from the start, and we are delighted to see the court concluded in the same way,” the company said.
