Norwegian church suspends salable donations due to flood
The Second Congregational Church, UCC, is asking people who are considering donating to the Church in Norway, for future thrift stores / garage sales, not to bring them in at this time due to recent flooding.
When the water heater collapsed in the basement of the church at 205 Main Street, it flooded much of the church basement. Damage was caused to the old tiles in the kitchen, dining room and wing, classroom, thrift store and storage space. Since the old tiles were made with asbestos, removal and replacement will require time and special handling before the new flooring can be installed, according to a press release from the church.
The church is preparing for the earthworks and will need to use space throughout the church to store basement items. Over the next few months, until the flooring project is complete, items will need to be moved upstairs.
The church will notify donors of the resumption of sales and there will be space for other donated items.
For more information on the flooring project, call the church office at 207-743-2290. Monetary donations for the flooring project can be mailed to the Second Congregational Church, PO Box 164, Norway, ME 04268; write “Flooring” in the memo line.
