Norwegian pop star Metteson shares his musical debuts, from finding a stage persona to festivals in Oslo to his obsession with Britney Spears.

For Metteson, it’s all about deep, truly felt emotion: the Norwegian pop star’s tunes are exercises in utterly outlandish maximalism without any sense of inhibition or embarrassment. He counts classics like Toni Braxton’s “Unbreak My Heart” and Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” among his inspirations, and isn’t afraid to reach the same heights.

He’s toured alongside the acclaimed AURORA for the past few weeks, with a huge slot at London’s Brixton Academy just passing, and he’s now been announced as the main backing for one of music’s biggest exports. from Norway, Sigrid. Back home, he performed to a sold-out crowd of 2,000 in Oslo, proving to be a true treasure of his hometown.

His latest track, “Second Heart,” is a classic power ballad, stripping out some of the grander instrumentation of his other songs for a more intimate, piano-driven sound.

To celebrate Matteson’s ever-growing success, we caught up with him to discuss some of his key musical early days, from his 2024 plans to his mostly intact guitar to getting along on national radio.
