Traveling Global Health, Safety and Security Trainer – Norway

The context

The Norwegian Refugee Council provides high-quality aid where the need is greatest, helping people forced to flee. About 6,000 men and women work for the Norwegian Refugee Council in many different countries, in complex and unstable environments.

The Health, Safety and Security Section (HSS) is responsible for developing, evaluating and monitoring NRC’s comprehensive approach to health, safety, security and management. crises. With a central team located at headquarters, the Section provides policies, systems, frameworks and standards for use globally, and works through and with senior management and security personnel in the regions. and domestic operations. It also encompasses the training unit.

We are looking to hire a Global Health, Safety and Security Trainer to provide technical direction and guidance on HSS training, skills and behavior to staff at all levels of the organization and HSS staff .

What will you do

Reporting to the Global HSS Training Unit Leader, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of HSS training, providing technical direction and guidance on HSS training, skills and behavior to staff at all levels of the organization and to HSS personnel.

Some of your daily tasks will include:

  • Deliver as Instructor or Chief Instructor.
  • Support the implementation of the global SSR training strategy.
  • Operationally manage the NRC HEAT and its consultants on delivery, maintain and develop the high quality of this training.
  • Responsible for training administration and logistics.
  • Support the development and implementation of NRC’s crisis management training program.
  • Development and delivery of new trainings initiated by the Global HSS Training Manager.

What you will bring

  • Exemplary command of the English language (written and spoken).
  • Strong report writing and excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in health, safety and security, of which 3 preferably within an NGO, UN or private sector (excluding security military or private). Another relevant experience could compensate for the lack of such experience.
  • Solid understanding of the principles and practices of broader humanitarian action, NGO security and risk management, humanitarian access and civil-military coordination.
  • Substantial and demonstrated prior experience as a trainer, with an effective and professional training style, and the ability to develop, implement, facilitate and deliver learning to senior management and a wide range of audiences.
  • Leadership and team spirit.
  • Demonstrated experience in incident and crisis management.
  • Proficiency in an additional language, either French, Spanish or Arabic.
  • Professional qualifications or studies in general management, safety/risk management and adult education.
  • Professional instructor certificates in first aid, advanced driving and other relevant subjects.
  • Previous work experience at regional or global level.
  • Language skills in Arabic, French or Spanish.
  • Experience or qualifications in humanitarian access or negotiation.
