Trump says Haitian immigrants likely spread AIDS in US

Former President Donald Trump once again denounced refugees seeking asylum in the United States, this time claiming that Haitians “probably have AIDS” and calling their arrival a “death wish for our country”.
Mr Trump was speaking on Sean Hannity’s prime-time Fox News show Thursday when asked about Covid-19 testing protocols for refugees. He then made several unfounded allegations about immigrants and even spoke of a conspiracy from other countries against the United States.
“There is another thing that no one is talking about,” said the former president.
âSo we have hundreds of thousands of people flocking from Haiti. Haiti has a huge AIDS problem. AIDS is a step beyond. AIDS is a very bad problem.
âSo hundreds of thousands of people are entering our country and if you look at the statistics and the numbers, if you just look – look at what’s going on in Haiti, a huge problem with AIDS,â Mr. Trump. noted.
âMany of these people will probably have AIDS and they will enter our country,â he said. âWe’re not doing anything about it. We let everyone in. It’s like a death wish, like a death wish for our country!
Mr Trump also said dozens of countries are “emptying their jails” by deliberately sending newly released prisoners to America.
âI heard it was 50 countries! They are emptying their prisons in the United States, âMr. Trump said. âTheir prisons, some of the toughest people in the world are being dumped in America because they don’t want it. They don’t want to take care of them for the next 40 years.
The comments sparked criticism online, where some users pointed to his previous racist statements while many also pointed to his own administration’s inability to tackle Covid.
âNot a joke. Trump is throwing up on people coming from Haiti and ‘they all have AIDS’ but he doesn’t care about killing more than 600,000 Americans from Covid, âwrote Twitter user Tim Faulkner.
“I really try not to share much about the 30 emails I get a day from Trump (most of them are conspiracies and just ask for money) but damn it here it comes down to the stereotype the more resentful targeting the Haitian people over 30 years old. there is, âwrote WLRN reporter Danny Rivero.
âTrump is trying to take advantage of xenophobia, homophobia and racism to set his base on fire again. Today proclaiming a huge serious risk to America due to illegal Haitians with AIDS crossing the border. Remember his obsession with turning Mexicans into rapists⦠A sociopath in one turn, âwrote a user called Mike Mann.
This is not the first time that the former president has made racist and anti-refugee comments. Earlier in 2017, the New York Times reported, citing two sources, that Mr. Trump during a briefing with his advisers said that the 15,000,000 Haitians sent by that nation’s government to the United States “all have AIDS.”
The White House denied this claim and said Mr. Trump, then president, did not make the remark.
In 2018, the Washington post reported that Mr. Trump wanted immigrants from countries like Norway, instead of âshitty countriesâ when asked about Haiti.
âWhy do we have all these people from all these countries coming here? The former president is said to have declared, when asked about immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African countries as part of a bipartite immigration bill. He then suggested that the United States should admit more immigrants from places like Norway.
